Monitoring Serverless architectures
Bio: Serhat helps teams build better on-call and incident response practices at Atlassian, Opsgenie. He is part of the Devopsdays core team and runs many local events in Turkey. He is an AWS Community Hero and a Serverless enthusiast. Title: Monitoring Serverless architectures Abstract: At OpsGenie, we have been using AWS Lambda for more than four years now. One of the challenges we have faced with was the visibility of our functions. As a Java user, we couldn’t attach an agent or find an easy way to auto instrument our functions without messing up our code. In the end, we ended up building our own solution called “Thundra” which is now a what we call “Observability solution for AWS Lambda”. In this talk, I share why we ended up building this tool and some of the key challenges along the way. I’ll also present some ideas on how to improve visibility in Serverless architectures.
Automating AWS Security
Bio: Luc is a senior cloud consultant, AWS APN Ambassador and team lead for Sentia’s AWS Infrastructure-as-Code team. His specialities include serverless architectures, advanced networking and AWS security. Before joining Sentia Luc was an entrepreneur, building mobile apps and hosting backends for the largest sports events in the world, such as the Olympic Games and the Tour de France. Title: Automating AWS Security with Serverless Technology Abstract: At a public cloud MSP, maintaining and monitoring multiple large AWS environments is all in a day’s work. With many internal and external users and a large attack surface, monitoring security becomes a challenge. Using serverless technologies like CloudTrail, Lambda, CloudWatch, Config, GuardDuty and the newly released Security Hub, we can detect vulnerabilities and automate our first response to security incidents. This talk will introduce you to the serverless systems and architectures used by Sentia to lower human effort and failure, while improving our security posture.
